sorry to all the awesome ppl I didn't list.

Thanks Guys!

I appreciate the warm welcome from all of you! I just popped into the introduction section to let you know I was here but I now see that some of you saw me sneak in in the middle of the night. :)

The Phase Linear 400 was my first separate power amp. I purchased it new in '77 while stationed in Spain in the USAF at the time after reading lots of reviews and wanting something that would easily drive four ESS AMT4 floor speakers. I was always happy with it but somewhere in '05 it started to sound, well let's say, not as good. I wasn't really aware of any of the forums that helped repair/restore/modify vintage stuff so I put it on eBay and someone picked it up cheap.

After reading about the WOPL mods and chatting back and forth with skynyrd77 the other day, he made me realize that it was time to join you guys and look for a PL400 candidate for a WOPL400 mod and hear what everyone was raving about.

Jason, I sent Marc a PM about his 400 but haven't heard back from him yet. Hopefully he'll get back to me and be willing to sell it but, if he's changed his mind, they're out there, Phase Linear did sell a lot of them during their great run.

Thanks again for laying out the welcome mat!

It's nice to have you aboard. Keeping old gear relevant is prevalent, here.

Nando.

How many ya want?? I have a few.... in fact, I have a 400 called the pig that has been known to leave town for awhile and make WOPL converts....care to hear it??

Not many members get away without a welcome around here. Its one of the only forums I have ever frequented where members create threads to make a warm welcome to new members.

Welcome to Phoenix.

LOL One should do it at +or- 250 actual wpc, I would guess! :smokin: Thanks for the offer of "the pig" but I think after owning and being happy with a stock PL 400 for close to 30 years, I think I'm ready to just jump in.

I'm all for the vintage nando, I appreciate the sentiment. For starters, the RCA speakers in my main system are older than I am, they were made circa 1947 and I didn't come along until 7 years later!!! Perhaps they're old enough to be considered beyond vintage, I'm not sure! One of my two turntables is an Empire 298 and is from 1960, the Sargent Rayment EL84 tube amp that drives those speakers is from the early sixties and my Marantz 115B tuner is from the mid 70's. My second setup is currently a Tandberg 2055 receiver and a pair of ESS AMT1B speakers. Both systems have CD players, but they're not too vintage and my main system has a tube preamp from the 90's, also not too vintage. So, as you can see, I too am a fan of vintage gear.

Thanks again everyone, this is also the first forum I've joined where I was welcomed before I had a chance to post an intro. Very nice guys, appreciate that.

Welcome dude! I bought my first PL 400 in 76 while stationed in Italy. Where in Spain were you stationed?

A Nav welcome girl for you - thought you might enjoy the view.

You were absolutely correct in your assumption, great view Nav, I loved it, thanks! ;) I was stationed at Torrejon Air Base, just outside of Madrid, what great duty, I loved living in Spain. I did go TDY to Aviano, Italy a couple times, I loved it there too. We also did TDY stints at Incirlik CDI in Turkey-not nearly as nice, but not horrible. Where in Italy were you stationed?

Thanks Jason, thanks too for giving Marc a nudge in my direction. Heck yeah, right to the edge with it, let's do it. I figure if I'm not living on the edge I'm taking up too much space!! :) You are correct sir, I DID appreciate the gift and when I clicked on her, she grew to a size where I could actually see her clearly!!

Thank you too for the warm welcome, Lazarus!

Good I'm glad Marc contacted ya. He said he had a few ppl trying to get it out from under me so he didn't reply to anybody till he heard back from me. Which was very cool of him!! So I told him that you were interested in going all out with it !!! Were all real believers in joe's upgrades. And once you hear one you will know why!! And as you can already see!! We have a wildly invitefull bunch here. And I stole your line. Instant classic. Can see you will fit right in !!!!!!

Ciao from Italy .
Glad to know you stationed in Aviano .

Marco
