4 CDPs will shoot it out. Which will I chose for the Cary system? No DACs. Then with DACS

1 Shanling
2 Grant Fidelity
3 Onix
4 Parasound

Which one do you think. Will be going straight into a deck. No preamp.

I know more about guidelines for whacking anarchist ninjas with a $50,000 ENG cam than any of them.

I'm hoping the Shanling will do well, being a tubed CDP. What will be your test CD, Larry? So, is the idea to record from each of the four CDPs onto the same tape and find out which track sounds best? The Shanling may have the best synergy with your Yamaha cassette deck!
Ooops.. there's that word again.

Choose a great MOFI CD for your shoot out test, something like Aja from Steely Dan...make sure it is well mastered or the player won't make much difference.

Very mellow Lee, thanks. I listened to the first PDB, will likely listen to the other later tonight. Good stuff.

I can tell you the Shanling sent chills up my spine yesterday. I put some Johnny Lang on. Now with the Grant Fidelity I know by putting my PT DAC in the mix it is very good. I have always ran the Sh with the tube outputs. May see what it does with a DAC in the mix. It has just analog outputs also. I can run tube no tube or DACs.
To be continued.

Well I'm going to go get the Onix in a bit. Getting the sound down in my head from the SH. Done deal. Went out to think what I was hearing. Onix is a very good CDP. It is brighter, the bottom is muddy. The highs are there but not as crisp. Now if I chose the Onix. I would start messing with my wires. The Obo was more pronounced. It is in the mids that it has gotten brighter. It is in the mids that it really shines. Do I throw a DAC at it? Kinda boring sounding. It is to dimensional I can hear were the music is coming out. I can here the tweeter, mid and woofer. I don't want that. I want it mixed up before I here it.

Who would have thought a CDP would have that much influence on a system. If I hadn't been listening to the Shanling this would be very good. It would have synergy. LOL I will throw a DAC at it in a bit. It does its job honorably. If you walked in here you would say it sounded great. You may even like it better than the Shanling. I'll bet if I go with the Audio Magic wires it will let the CDP breathe a little better. I can hear things that I heard with the SH just not as clear. Still makes me stop and listen though. Makes me tap my foot and do my other movements. Still sounds very good. I could tweak the speakers. Hate doing it. I wish they weren't even there. LOL It has taken 20 min.s to type a sentence. LOL. If I had not heard the Shanling before this would be a very good. CDP.

OK PT DAC installed and the Anti-jitter. Makes all the difference. Sounds almost as good as the Shanling. If you guys want I can pass around the PT gear. If you noticed I didn't put any AA gear in. I know what will work the best. I'm doing the head shaking toe tapping jammin. Doubt if I'm even 1/4 of the volume. Sounds very good. These are not for sale. I'm not going to use them in this system so I can let them move around. I will send the coaxes with them.Dudes it is right up there with the Shanling. My gosh it is taking a while to type this. LOL If you guys want a listen.
