I do it for the love man..... I do love building WOPL's for the masses. Thanks guys.... And Joe, I hope you find that stash that needs the attention. I'd love it for sure.
My soldering used to be WAY better when I had a good Microscope. I used a scope for every joint I soldered back a few years. Now the cost of a good stereo-scope is too expensive so I have to do it with my Marty Feldman eyes.
When we went through soldering school/connector repair/board repair, we soldered under the scope because that's how the instructors inspected and signed off on your work. To cheat, we'd polish the solder joint with a q-tip to make the shit stand out. But under the scope was the only way to ensure ALL the flux was gone and there was no dewetting of the pad.
It's not stereo. But on my 65" TV ( monitor) it helps. I bought it when I was nursing Marla's horrific leg wounds for 12 months straight couple years ago. Snaps pics real nice too.

My company I worked for in St Paul (Guidant which is now Boston Scientific), sent me through surface mount school. We did get a fair amount of it in the Navy class too. The trick is, Tiny bit of solder, and lots of flux.
