It's pristine looking, good belts, FF/REW/PLAY are fine, just no audio (as it was advertised).

He even sent me a beautiful, professional service manual scan, not the kind of stuff you tend to see from amateur scans...very NICE!

I tried the AMSS (program blank search) and it never stopped, as expected basically, so I might suspect that there is no signal at the preamp. Maybe the head is not connected properly or a switch, but since he went over it as thoroughly as he knew to it's possibly not as simple as that.

The side panels are veneered wood and the top is vinyl covered metal, much like Pioneers of that period. No real scratches to complain about on those.

I don't suppose you have one of those old preamps with "head" input? I think it allowed the tapehead to be directly connected for gain.

Never saw a cassette deck like that and neither of my two Pioneer SX-1500Ts is working.
