Just Got A Real Nice Series I !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a good looking girl you have there. Glad you got your Series 1, and at a nice price too.

Yeah Scott, an auction ending 2 days before Christmas with something not necessary wasn't the smartest thing to do. I'm kinda curious now what a White Oaked cherry 700B will bring on the e-bay. A cherry B with just new outputs brought 1025.45 just the other day.

This will be the start of the PLWO Super Double Mono 1000. I have the parts 700 Ser I in pieces anyway, so I'm going to cut and splice the left hand piece of the faceplate, to mthe right hand side of the new one above,. keep the transformer with it and run 2 discreet channels frem the same chassis. So... as you l;ook at the front it will have a switch and warning plate on the right as well as the left with the meter plate in the middle. The chassis will be widened a wee bit to allow for the low level inputs housed in a faraday- like cage and speaker posts also in the middle. The 2 separate power supplies will have 2 35 amp BR's (like the one Mark posted a link to), one supplying the - voltage, the other the positive. It will be a shakedown mule to prove up some of the 1.3KW monster adaptations I will have to make to achieve that. Plus it'll just look too damn cool.

I saw that on evil-bay and thought you might be bidding on it, so I deferred. It will be nice to tear into a very early unit to see the evolution from 1972 to 1976 or so. Your SDM 1000 (more likely 1500) will be a brute, can you say zero crosstalk? You better start looking for another pair of K-horns. Your speaks are nice but no pair of speakers will be able to handle the fire of that fire-breathing monster. We are talking almost 2.5A of current zipping down each your zipcord speaker cables (assuming 8 Ohms, double that value for 4 Ohms).

On a transient peak, and that's what we are looking for, a REAL response to a peak transient, I don't know what the K's will take. I know they've taken 800-900 watts peak.

That, my friend, was a lame attempt at humor. I would not be one bit surprised to see you running copper buss bars to your speakers...

Finding out what your K-horns will take is a one time, irreversible, painful, and expensive experiment.

I, or we, look forward to an upcoming year of more exciting Phase Linear amplifier customizing, Lee. I'd suggest nicknaming it a PL 700 SD, a throwback to Pontiac's badging for their Super Duty muscle cars.

Nando.

First of all ---- I really do have #14 THHN as speaker wire.

Secondly---I can tell when the K's are starting to crumble, I go there and back off a notch on the Spec 1, they have to handle transients while on the ragged edge of continous, and they still seem to do it. Clean power is IT!! My Spec's could not get close to getting them this loud. That's the ticket---clean power.

Ok Nando , how about the PLWO-1000 SDDM ??

Mark, the upgrade to the K's was 1800.00 just for the drivers. The crossovers were 300 each in kit form. I have blasted some components off the crossover board, the 10 ohm swamping resistor and the tweeter cap. Split it open like a bud flowering.. Pretty cheap fix. I have not up to this point harmed a driver, although I have been shopping to see who stocks diaphrams for DCM-50 2 inch horn driver.
