Does anyone know if the overlay on a Hybrid SACD effects the quality of the SACD track? Can you hear a difference?

No effect, remember it is digital with heavy duty error correction involved. Bits is bits...

How can you get errors when there's just two types of things to keep track of??

So.....you are talking read errors, not processing errors??
Read errors and processing errors Lee (mostly read errors by far). Your DIMM memory in your computer commits errors and you don't even know it because it corrects.

The data path processing electronics in your SACD/DVD contains protection logic that corrects for parity errors.

To do that there has to be parallel comparative processing going on at the same time???

Yes, state machines correct for data errors on the fly using mathematical error correction code techniques or simple parity correction. There is a lot of overhead in the recorded data that assists in the error correction process.

Broken beyond repair but highly affable

Things are usually 5.1 mix on the SACD portion?

I don't know, you'll want to read up on Blurays or similar, advanced discs have two layers at least.
