Biography
Anker Rasmussen, 72, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at his home in Hope, Idaho. Private family services have been held.
Anker was born October 29, 1940 in Missoula, MT, the oldest of four boys, to Anker and June Rasmussen.
Anker was a “Man of the Sea”, spending a lifetime of service to our communities and country on the water. "The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever." - Jacques Yves Cousteau.
Anker served honorably in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years as a Naval Officer. Anker went to work at Kennedy Space Center over-seeing the design and building of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster Retrieval Ships. Anker was in charge of Post Launch and Marine Operations from 1978 until he retired in 2001. Anker then moved to Hope, ID where he worked in his third career as a Marine Deputy Sheriff until 2011. Anker founded Anchorage Marine Surveying in 2011.
He leaves memories to be cherished by his beloved wife of 33 years, Susan Sierra Rasmussen; two brothers, two daughters, four sons and numerous grandchildren.
Our world is smaller without his smiling face, wit and humor. He will be deeply missed.
