Will the records work with just one's ears or is the analyser required, Tom? I know nothing of tis gear other than it exists.

Also, do you have a stylus microscope?

I do not have a stylus microscope, but I gave mine to Turntable Medic in Murfreesboro.
There are different test records, some of which are designed by Shure specifically for the cartridge analyzer. Shere and others also made "tracking performance" test records. These you could use by ear. The records typically have bands of bells cut at successively higher volumes, high enough that older cartridges would jump out of the groove. I've got an ortophon test record which has a music side and test tone side. Others include a silent record (rumble tester), and one with sweep tones. Most records have a 3kHz speed + wow and flutter band. I am selling these eventually if anyone is interested. I think I have 4 of the Trackability records. Maybe $30 each for those?
