10 inch Reels

The Akai gets here today. No these are 10 inchers. These are loaded Sony metal reels.

Even better. Is the Akai M8 ready to play and record right out of the box? Innovative Audio had a bunch of sealed 7" and 10" Scotch open reel tapes, I missed out on before the holidays. I doubt there would be any left, now.

I have some Sony SLH 180 tape with sticky slip squeal. What Sony tapes are safe to buy?

Old thread, but giving it a boost. I would not recommend any Sony branded tape, NOS or used. Of the four main flavors they had: PR-150, SLH, ULH, and FeCr, all are known, verified SSS offenders. Buy them for the large bulbous reels. But I would not recommend using the tape.

Yeah I'm more into ten inchers myself. Love to handle and look at them and play them. I've amassed quite a collection of them.

Seven inchers do very "little" for me.
