700B on Craigslist if anyone is interested

Found this on Craigslist in Seattle for $550.00. The following is what is in the post if anyone is interested: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ele/5145123267.html Re-posted due to "buyer" flaking and not showing---gave him THREE chances to get here and now he wants "just a few more...

Thanks Lee. I'll probably talk to Don about it and see what he thinks.

    Bob's 4 WOPL 400 builds

I looked at a few and finally decided on this one. It's made by Aavid Thermalloy 579103B00000G ( Digi-Key # HS236-ND). My other 3 PL400s don't have the extra fins so I'm hoping these will comp for that. Just an extra precaution. I may want to drive them a lot harder in the future.

Thanks Joe. If those who have a good ear for audio but haven't heard a WOPL could hear one, I think there would be a real scramble to get there hands on one. Very nice!

    Bob's 4 WOPL 400 builds

So cycling the power did reset it. Was listening at an even lower volume ( maybe 25% volume ) last night and it did it again after about an hour. Cycled power and no problem with for the last 3 hours of play at a little more volume than that. Is there maybe a mod for the DC Protect board? I...

    Bob's 4 WOPL 400 builds

Finally got the first one done. This thing sounded great last night. Indeed no hiss or any sound coming from the speakers at full volume. I had my Anthem D1 hooked up for the preamp and gave a listen to Allen Parson's Project Turn of a Friendly card and David Templton's Never in a lifetime as...

    Bob's 4 WOPL 400 builds

Well that was it. I some how flew right over R36 in the BOM and on the package of 1 ohm 1/4 watt resistors during the build. In stalled the resistors in R36 and was able to adjust both. Thanks again Lee. Can't wait to hear this one tomorrow.

I'll find a 1 ohm resistor for R36 and give it another try.

    Yes, R38 has a jumper.

    Bob's 4 WOPL 400 builds

Thanks Lee. I thought it fit right in here. Say, I seem to have a problem with my bias adjustments. I have 6mV on the left and 22mV on the right bias test points to the input minus per the procedure and those numbers don't change when adjusting the pots full range. I can't seem to figure...

Actually connected the OUT2 L and R with a 10K each to the two white wires that go to the common chassis ground. My problem I think was that I was using crapy alligator leads that probably gave me more than 10K of resistance. The only thing I did was replace the alligators with the hardwire...

    Bob's 4 WOPL 400 builds

Success! Got rid of the alligator leads and hooked up to a terminal block and I never went over a millivolt when bringing it up. The alligator clips were cheepees and may not have given very good connections. Caps to 80V + and - with no problems observed. Now to finish the build.

Hi Joe, yes I connected the 10K resistors, one each to each channel, with nothing connected to the DC output board except for a couple grounds. The resistors are connected via alligator clip leads. I'm going to try using a small contact block and see if that helps.

Thanks again Lee. No, the DC protect board only had the 2 grounds going to it.

    Bob's 4 WOPL 400 builds

Thanks Lee. Say I have some questions for you or Joe. I just did the backplane check on my first of the four and got 90mV on the left channel and 65mV on the right with the voltage between B+ and B- at 80VDC. They actually reached those levels just as I started bringing the voltage up with...

Finally got back to the WOPL build. Finished the WattsAbundant DC Protect boards (WA DCP). Installed the C3 cap after the fact.

Capacitor polarity- are we putting them in backward?

Thanks Mark for the video link. Very interesting indeed. In analog / audio I can see this as maybe a concern but not so in digital. From what I've read about the WOPL design the noise level is so low that it is not audible no matter what direction you mount the non polarized caps in. I do...
