    Running some tape today

I'm considering getting rid of my 558 this year. If I need to run 7" tapes, I can do it on the bigger decks. I'll probably end up keeping the 755 & a 758 auto reverse.

    Gasoline prices dropping

Prices have remained around $2.00 , give or take 3 or 4 cents. The local Shell stations are always higher priced, sometimes as much as 25 cents a gallon.

Sniffer, You are correct regarding storage. This is why I am considering reducing the collection. The 765 went unused for a long time prior to getting it. The pinch roller assembly was frozen and it need some other minor repairs. I've had it for about 20 years and still plays perfectly.

    Running some tape today

The monsters are great decks. They're big and they take up a lot of room. They've been packed away for a year. The 765 is in my avatar. The 766-2 is identical except for a switch in the head cover that lets you switch from 2 track to 4 track playback. In 1976, the 765 sold for a $1,000 and the...

    Running some tape today

The Sony 580 is a nice deck. I've owned one that took a lot of work to breath life back into it. The 558 is the only 7" six head deck I own. These came on the market late 1968 and production ended by 1972. The TC-755, 756, 756-2 (half track) and the 758 (auto reverse rotating head block)...

    Running some tape today

Its been a while since I've run any tape. With nothing else to do today I loaded a 10" reel on a Sony TC-755 and let it go. I've had this deck since 1985. In the mid 90's a retired tech serviced for me and calibrated it for Maxell-XLl back coated tape. The machine still runs flawlessly and only...

It wasn't my intention to violate the forum rules. Sam , Skywave, is a great contributor to these forums and it would be to bad to see him leave either forum. When I wrote about Matt, I didn't even consider that he would he would get out of control with his reply. Hopefully some day he will...

Do Not Do Business With Splicit Products

I stay away from those situations that gets members on someone's bad side. Most of the time you read in the thread where they have been warned. I don't agree where they let some threads go on when people want to bash a vender. Those kind of threads probably should be kept out of the public...

Where can you find "How to do preventive Maintenance on a Pioneer 701-RT Reel to Reel?

Great advice. Taking on one of these machines without some knowledge or at least a little background in electronics can cause more harm then good. I wish him luck but I also think it would be wise to contact a tech with solid experience before he begins.

    Playoffs 2018 ...

Technology has given MLB and the NFL along with other competitive sporting events to over come questionable calls and either confirm or reverse the call. On the other side of the battle is that this is a game played by humans and officiated by humans. I do think that in high profile playoff...

    Playoffs 2018 ...

A group of Saint's fans have filed a lawsuit against the NFL over the loss. They either want the call for interference reversed and award the game to the Saints or they want the game replayed. I'll bet the courts are thrilled with another frivolous lawsuit. The only winner here will be the...

Do Not Do Business With Splicit Products

Nice to read you have a fix in the pipeline. Splicit is a member on TH's and it would have been in their business interest to reply to the feedback they were receiving instead of hiding from the people that supports their business. Ron

Do Not Do Business With Splicit Products

I can't make any excuses for Splicit. Just a theory, but maybe they didn't estimate an influx of business and didn't have the stock on hand. Another thought, maybe they are under-capitalized and unable to restock especially since the complaints seem to go back to the xmas holidays. Regardless...

Do Not Do Business With Splicit Products

P.S. closed the thread. He spoke with Roger (Splicit) and P.S. posted that who ever was complaining to contact Roger. P.S. will close threads sometimes when members forget where they left their manners. People will reply to threads when they don't have a dog in the race. I hope whoever had the...

Do Not Do Business With Splicit Products

There is a conversation running on TH's right now about Splicit and their difficulties regarding slow shipping. Pacific has commented a couple of times and has said he would try to find out what is causing the disruption with their slow shipping. I find these types of current problems with...

Playing with the Sony TC-580 R2R

I picked up a couple of 580's a few years ago. One was a parts deck. The better of the two needed its heads lapped and it had a broken board. Finally the tech ended up with one nice running deck. That's also a nice Tascam you picked up. Good luck with it. Hope it served you well.

Matt, I'm surprise to read how forcibly you have come out against Splicit. I' have purchased all my LPR-35 from them. Some on reels and the rest are pancakes. Their service was excellent and received my orders within five days. Hopefully you have changed your opinion during the past year. Ron

    Gasoline prices dropping

I saw the cost of a barrel drop on the news last night. The Saudis' have also said the are cutting back production. This reduced production follows on what they said they would do several weeks ago. Its also being reported that the home building industry is at a three year low and sales are...
