Iso alcohol took the stickiness out of the adhesive and cleaned off the nicotine on the face of the foil, but that was all. Goo Gone gets round 2. Started the build, I'll take some pics this weekend.

Back when I started this project, I disassembled the transformer. The back cover plate was rusted and peeling paint so I peeled the data foil off the back. I've cleaned up the cover and spray painted it. Now I'm wondering if it's possible to get a new reprinted data foil or just put the old one...

    Power switch mod?

Copy that. Solves the problem of finding a high current switch in a small package.

    Power switch mod?

Honestly don't recall. Wanted to go back to it and can't find it now. Don was involved in it quite a bit.

    Power switch mod?

CALLING DON!!!! Found a thread on that site which shall remain nameless about using a triac for power switching. Then I get back to this thread and find that Don has developed a triac board for the 700. So Don, have you got one (or three) that can go in a 400? Seems that would make installing a...

Cleaning up the cooling fins, the middle fins popped off. Looked to be epoxied together with bare metal to metal contact. Can I JB weld it back together or reassemble with thermal paste?

I took a different approach to mounting the IEC jack. Moved the rail fuses outboard and brought the AC fuse inboard.

Thicker PL400 faceplate with new analog meters...

Well, all that's needed is a source for transformers and cooling fins then you could sell complete DIY kits.

So the plate can be eliminated? As long as L/R signal grounds are tied together? Or is that not required as well?

Gene I noticed you don't seem to have a ground on the input ground copper plate tying it to the main busbar. Was there a reason? I'm wondering why have it at all if not for that reason.

Today is tear down day. Looks like the transformer got a little warm at some point. Any idea what to do about the loose plate?

Curious as to why... curiouser as to why you eliminated the bias transistors.

Thanks for posting the photo. I saved it as a wiring guide. Which 2 wires are you referring to Gene? The ones for meter lighting? The leads for the thermistor? Both? That's a good idea about the meter taps. I already had figured on connecting to the output side of the DCP. 2 ring terminals...
