    What if...

What if all you had was a pl400 transformer. Could build a complete WOPL 400?

    O scope recommendations

Seems an o scope is somewhat needed for this hobbie. What would be a good used scope for a hobbyist? I've used them so there wouldn't be a learning curve involved. And maybe an audio signal generator too...

BTW, what's the recommended alternative for the bias transistor 2N3403?

It's the angle. I did a double take when I saw that too.

Linda - Rode hard and abused

Well, Linda is finally getting her turn on the bench. Started stripping down the chassis. Clean up shouldn't be too bad. Other than dust bunnies and residue from an apparent KABOOM somewhere along the line it's not in horrible shape. Tested the transformer after I got it out, voltages look...

PL 400 for 4 ohm subs.

I am building a passive subwoofer with separate left and right drivers. They will be driven by a PL-400 that is fed by a Rolls active sub crossover. The drivers are 4 ohm impedance. I know that can be problematic for the 400 at hi output levels. I'm using this in a home system and unlikely to be...

    Eq Connection Confusion

Curious what would cause that. Impedance mismatch at various points across frequency spectrum as the output of the preamp increases/decreases?

    Eq Connection Confusion

Looking to optimize my connection of my eq into my system. Years ago I had the SG-9500 connected between the pre-out and main-in of my SA-9800. Now I read that was wrong, should've been connected to a tape loop. It seems that the answer could best be answered if I could find what the max output...

    Charge coupled crossovers

I might play with a pair of Mach IIs just to see if it works for them, though I think the major issue is the midrange speaker.

    Charge coupled crossovers

Anybody experimented with modding existing crossovers to charge coupled and is it a significant improvement?

    JBL 4410 rebuild

127h-1. I reconed both with a kit from Simply Speakers And applied aquaplas as the cones were not coated like the originals. I went with white just to be different.

    JBL 4410 rebuild

Pulled the woofers and did the polarity check. Voice coils are built reversed. Reversed the wiring on the woofers, reassembled, connected to the amp correctly and now it sounds like the band is right in the room. Very clear, detailed, bass is crisp. No muddiness, no hump. Excellent low end...

    JBL 4410 rebuild

Wow. Scratch, Mlucitt, George S, thanks. After reading those posts I did a quick and dirty polarity swap on the 4410's. No noticeable change by themselves, but when I added in the L36's there was a very noticeable difference in the low end. Could be the new voice coils are the same polarity as...

    JBL 4410 rebuild

I've been listening to these 4410's for awhile now and I thoroughly enjoy the detail in the music. I've been comparing them to my L36's and they are clearly not as sensitive as the 4410's though I still enjoy their warmth and musicality. One disturbing thing I've noticed, when I play them...

    JBL 4410 rebuild

Thanks Joe. Gotta get my wall unit finished so I can connect Val to the 4410's. They're only rated at 125 watts, but that's where your meter switch comes in.:)
