    WOPL update for PL400

Trying to understand the small numbers below dB numbers - which show 100 at 0dB, 80 at -1.5dB, 60 at -4.5dB. Doesn’t seem to match wattage unless +3dB is 200 watts, but then 50 should be at -3dB.

Drooling... I’ll take them as long as I can pay for them and postage. Can you take PayPal or Apple Pay?

    WOPL update for PL400

Thanks. Yet another question. What does 0dB on the VU meters represent - reference power out? 200 watts into 8 ohms for the PL400?

    Technics M85 - worth restoring?

I'll remember this when I start to restore it.

    WOPL update for PL400

Jim, I don't think the cover actually touches the output transistor. There is some clearance between the cover and the top of the transistor. I now see the groove the cover fits in. Was the cover anodized aluminum? Aluminum is so soft and not particularly springy. If someone removed them...

    WOPL update for PL400

I thought duct tape was for keeping things from moving. Use a hammer when things are stuck. Were the transistor covers for the PL400 just friction fit? ie, just slip them on and slip them off?

    WOPL update for PL400

I finally managed to get it all put together. Today I married the front panel to the rest of the chassis. That's when I determined the two filter caps were mounted too far forward to allow the front panel with meters to mount (I did measure this, but somehow got it wrong.). Fortunately I had...

    Technics M85 - worth restoring?

That's good news. I'll be looking for guidance when I get around to restoring it. I've got oodles of experience with radios and stereos, but little with tape decks. I'm currently staying warm in Florida - good for the arthritis - but the tape deck is shivering in the cold in Maryland. It'll...

    Technics M85 - worth restoring?

No, I haven't tried it lately. Before I do, I'll open it up and at the very least check it for leaky electrolytics, corrosion, and clean it. How well do cassette tapes hold up? I must have some that are 40 years old. Nice deck you have there. I've always liked the looks. Do you have...

    Technics M85 - worth restoring?

I bought this in 1979 when I was living in Amsterdam. I haven't used it for years, but it has been well cared for. I'm thinking it might be a good project. What is the consensus?

    Scored this today:

Was the last one really $2?! More goodies. Back on tape topic, which I know nothing about. I noticed the TDK MA states "super wide dynamic range". What kind of dynamic range does tape have?

    WOPL update for PL400

Anyone have covers for the output transistors? Not wild about having them exposed with about 160vdc difference between them. I'll make something if I can't find originals.

PL 700 II Clair Bros Rising from the Ashes

So here's what he had to say: I'm still winding transformers and you can contact me directly at ed_dinning@yahoo.co.uk (note _ underscore). If you can send me some pictures and the electrical spec/ schematic I can give you a quote. Cost could be in the region of £100-£200 for such a massive...

PL 700 II Clair Bros Rising from the Ashes

Let me see if I can get a contact. He's on a forum for the restoration of vintage radios. I lived in the UK for a long time, still participate on the forum. He rewound an output transformer for a 1945 Ekco radio I have. Still, I think the megger is the way to go - just to see if you really...

PL 700 II Clair Bros Rising from the Ashes

I know a guy in the UK who rewinds transformers. He's not cheap, but he is fair. Shipping costs will be high. Let me know if you want to contact him.
