The White Oak Audio Model 1 Cabbage Case Thread

My opinion is there should be a U-shaped corrugated wrap around the heat sinks in the rear to provide a load spreader for those fins. Else they will just cut into the foam on that side under shock in that direction. The corrugated spines should be oriented length-wise in the direction of the...

Do you have them in backwards? Backwards caps will behave as you describe

Connect one bulk cap at a time and figure out which is bringing things down.

    Uncle

Next, disconnect both leads from the bridge to the bulk caps and tape off. This leaves the transformer and bridge. Report back after DBT testing

    Uncle

Did you start by removing all wires from both bulk caps, reconnecting ONLY the 2 wires that come from the bridge to the bulk caps, taping off the other ones and then reporting back DBT results. This cluster of parts represents the basic Power Supply. If you take things one step at a time...

The White Oak Audio Model 1 Cabbage Case Thread

Not sure of that Eric I don't see enough support for 8 heatsink fins in the back, have no idea why it does not support both entire sides rather than 2 small pads and the front has very little support. Area is your friend when you have broad support surfaces.

It is a varistor Gene, not really a cap. It is usually used for line surge suppression. Appears you had a surge. SIOV metal oxide varistors, leaded varistors, StandarD series

'High End'. What does that description mean to you?

I think that "high quality, high reliability, professional grade" goes a lot farther with me Chris.

    Phase Linear 2000 RCA jacks

I started out referencing the Neutrik XLR female panel jacks but have switched to referencing the Amphenol ones instead. The Neutrik ones were ridiculously aggressive (very high insertion force required) for a signal cable connection. I like the quality of the Neutrik but the Amphenol have the...

    Model ONE Build - S/N 0005 & 0006

The relay lamps illuminate when the relays are energized. Not visible once the lid is in place. It is not that easy. That switch is for the low current auxiliary power supply which is always on unless the switch is moved to the Vacation position. In that position, everything is off and it...

Phase Linear 2000 Tone Control POP/THUMP

Because the bias current contributes to the offset of an op amp. If you have nominally the same bias currents for the inverting and non-inverting inputs to the op amp, you would like their bias current pathways to a low impedance source to be through resistors of nearly equal value, identical...
